A former officer in the Zimbabwean National Army and has operational experience in Mozambique. He is currently Director of the Centre for Defence Studies at the University of Zimbabwe, where he previously completed his PhD on military and security issues in southern Rhodesia during the Federation period. He has written on regional security matters and is author of the Deadly Legacy: Landmines in Zimbabwe (SAPES).
