Robin Bourgeois is a senior researcher at CIRAD, currently working with ISRA in Saint Louis, Sénégal. Robin, who was born in Paris, has an Engineer Degree in Agronomy and a Ph.D. in rural Economy and Sociology from the University of Montpellier. Robin worked at ISNAR in the Netherlands from 1988 to 1992 as a research fellow on research-technology transfer linkages. He was then hired and seconded for four years by the MAEE to the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation in Agriculture (IICA) in Costa Rica. In 1996, Robin joined CIRAD as an economist. In 1998 he was seconded to the UNESCAP-Centre for Alleviation of Poverty through Sustainable Agriculture (CAPSA, ex-CGPRT Centre). In 2007, Robin returned to CIRAD, in Montpellier, where he continued his research on inequalities and constitutional change in rural areas, focusing on foresight as a triggering mechanism. After working in Mayotte on the futures of agriculture, he was assigned as a Special Foresight Adviser to the executive Secretary of GFAR in Rome where he strengthened GFAR’s role in foresight and provided an open and multi-stakeholder space for dialogue and action on the future of agricultural research, supporting farmers organisations and regional agricultural research fora to develop their capacities in using the future. In 2016 he joined the GoVINN center at the University of Pretoria in South Africa, working on foresight, governance and territorial development until he moved to Senegal. Over the last 6 years Robin has conducted six two-week capacity building modules on the concepts and tools of anticipation, training over 100 colleagues from Cirad and partner organisations.
