Eilif Ronning is a geographer, food systems scholar, and foresight practitioner. He believes that foresight as a set of practices can be transformative for bolstering organisations’ resilience to the intersecting shocks and stressors impacting our food futures. Building anticipatory instincts and capacities within organisations may allow for a powerful shift from a status quo of reaction to one of anticipation.
Eilif led the Board of a Haitian non-profit through a foresight exercise to grapple with uncertain futures driven by political instability and a shifting donor landscape. Together with colleagues at Food Systems Foresight, he developed a toolkit for Exploratory Scenario Planning (XSP) with Multistakeholder Platforms in Food Systems. The toolkit was tested in Cape Town, New York’s Hudson Valley, and the Black Sea region.
